Jean Sibelius 'Symphony No. 1 in E minor, Op. 39' by Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra - Live Concert Stream

Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 1 in E minor, Op. 39, composed in 1898–99, marks the Finnish composer’s shift from nationalistic themes toward a more abstract, orchestral expression, while still evoking the drama of Finnish nature. Reminiscent of Tchaikovsky, the symphony opens with a haunting clarinet solo and builds to an emotionally charged finale.

After a successful 1899 premiere in Helsinki, a revised 1900 version brought Sibelius international acclaim. This performance by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, under Jukka-Pekka Saraste, captures the symphony's raw intensity and lyricism.
