Choreographer John Neumeier brings Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to life through expressive ballet in this acclaimed production for The Hamburg Ballet.

Premiering on 10 July 1977 in Hamburg, this enchanting 2-hour 30-minute performance blends romance, mischief, and magic, with Zhandra Rodriguez as Titania/Hippolyta, François Klaus as Oberon/Theseus, and Kevin Haigen as Philostrat/Puck, among a stellar cast of dancers.

Neumeier’s musical selection perfectly captures the play’s three realms: the aristocratic court of Duke Theseus is underscored by Felix Mendelssohn; the ethereal fairy world of Oberon, Titania, and Puck is set to the sounds of György Ligeti; and the rustic charm of Bottom and the mechanicals are set against barrel organs.
