His second complete score for the Ballets Russes which followed the success of The Firebird'Petrushka' premiered at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in 1911.  His initial idea was for a concert piece for piano representing ‘a puppet suddenly endowed with life, exasperating the patience of the orchestra with diabolical cascades of arpeggios’.

The Firebird

Performed by the world-renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Peter Breiner, and recorded at BBC Television Centre, London, 'The Firebird' by Igor Stravinsky is now available to watch On Demand.

A ballet and orchestral concert work first performed at the Opéra de Paris on 25 June 1910, 'The Firebird' catapulted Igor Stravinsky to international fame. Although designed as a work for the stage, with specific passages accompanying characters and action, the music has achieved equal, if not greater recognition, as a concert piece.

The third and final part of On Air’s 2021 Classical Series saw Johannes Vogel and the Synchron Stage Orchestra’s performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 in C major (Jupiter Symphony). That full performance is now available to watch On Demand in 4K UHD with Dolby Atmos technology.

Captured in Vienna’s state-of-the-art Synchron Stage recording facility, and performed by the 40-piece Synchron Stage Orchestra, Mozart's visionary 41st Symphony, named "Jupiter" by critics as it is an example of divine perfection, is one of the most complex, most exciting compositions ever made, represents the complete possibilities of mankind.

Symphony No. 9 in E minor "From the New World"

The second part of On Air’s 2021 Classical Series saw Johannes Vogel and the Synchron Stage Orchestra’s performance of Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor. That full performance is available to watch now On Demand in 4K UHD with Dolby Atmos technology.

Captured in Vienna’s state-of-the-art Synchron Stage recording facility, and performed by the 60-piece Synchron Stage Orchestra (40 strings, 9 woodwind, 9 brass, 2 percussion), Dvořák’s New World Symphony is one of the most famous works in classical music history.  Filled with the spirit of modernism whilst also paying homage to tradition, it fizzes with hope and joy, and is uplifting throughout.

Beethoven

Originally streamed as part of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary celebration, this dazzling performance of Gustav Mahler's orchestration of Beethoven’s ‘Symphony No. 9’ is available to watch now On Demand in 4K UHD with Dolby Atmos technology.

Japanese superstar Yoshiki Hayashi (X Japan, The Last Rockstars) will take the stage for a unique classical performance at the Royal Albert Hall  in London, marking his triumphant return to the classical scene in the city after nearly a decade. This ground-breaking concert, featuring  The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, will commemorate the 10th anniversary of Yoshiki's acclaimed ‘Yoshiki Classical’ album.
