'Bass Impact' - Documentary

BASS IMPACT explores the theory that bass music has had a huge and lasting impact on popular culture worldwide

The compelling documentary examines how this underground genre, with its start in illegal raves and warehouses, pirate radio and bedroom producers, became a multi-billion-dollar Grammy-winning industry. Its presence is felt in film scores, commercials, computer games, and most modern pop productions.

The film also focuses on the personal stories of Hatcha and Skream, the acknowledged creators of dubstep, and Skrillex - arguably its biggest star who transcended the genre and was instrumental in dance music taking a firm grip on the US and its explosion worldwide.

With this backdrop, Bass Impact delves into the wider story of how huge innovations in technology and, ultimately, the arrival of the internet age led to a shift in the habits of consumers and changed the music industry forever. It was in this moment of renaissance that all these elements conspired to spark a revolution.

Dubstep, with its roots in drum and bass, took the world by storm as the first musical genre to harness the globalization and democratization of the internet, becoming a worldwide phenomenon seemingly overnight - but that, of course, is not the full story. What started from the underground music scene and the voice of a disenfranchised youth evolved and matured, continually innovating and pioneering whilst impacting and transforming music, fashion, politics, which can be traced back in nearly all areas of pop culture today.
