Tiësto (real name Tijs Michiel Verwest) is a force to be reckoned with, having earned a Grammy Award, multiple platinum-certified albums, and substantial international recognition. He has over 8 billion global streams, 36 million record sales, 30 million social audience and over 160 million TikTok video views. The DJ and producer has been named ‘The Greatest DJ of All Time” by Mixmag, “#1 DJ” by Rolling Stone”, and “The Godfather of EDM” by Billboard.  

Emerging in 1994 under the aliases Da Joke and DJ Limited, Tiësto was discovered by the general manager of Rotterdam-based label Basic Beat Recordings. He released his first solo album ‘In My Memory’ which spawned several hits that earned him the vote of World No.1 DJ by DJ Magazine for three years in a row (2002 – 2004).  

Following the release of his second album ‘Just Be’, he performed at the 2004 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Athens – the first DJ to do so. In 2007, Tiësto launched his radio show Tiësto’s Club Life on Radion 538 in the Netherlands and debuted his third studio album ‘Elements of Life’. The album reached number one on the Billboard Top Electronic Albums in the U.S. and received a GRAMMY nomination in 2008.  

Tiësto released his fourth album ‘Kaleidoscope’ in 2009, followed by ‘A Town Called Paradise’ in June 2014, ‘The London Sessions’ in 2020 (featuring ‘Ritual’ with Rita Ora and Jonas Blue), and ‘Drive’ in 2023. Some of the DJ’s star-studded singles include ‘Hot in It’ with Charli XCX, ‘Don’t Be Shy’ with Karol G, and ‘The Motto’ with Ava Max.  

From his underground dance floor bangers to his high-profile Las Vegas residency and crossover success, Tiësto continues to create a successful blueprint in modern dance music.

Does Tiësto own a record label?

Yes! In 1997, Tiësto co-founded the label Black Hole Recordings with Arny Bink, where he released the ‘Magik’ and ‘In Search of Sunrise’ CD series. Tiësto met producer Dennis Waakop Reijers in 1998, and the two have worked together extensively since then.

Tiësto has worked on crossover tracks with Hardwell, Rita Ora, Jonas Blue, Diplo, Ava Max, Karol G, and Charli XCX, while singers like Nelly Furtado and Tegan and Sara have put their twist on his club beats.

Tiësto won the Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for his remixed version of John Legends tearjerker ‘All of Me’ at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.
