The Prodigy was the brainchild of producer, keyboardist, and songwriter Liam Howlett, joined by dancer/vocalist Keith Flint, dancer/live keyboardist Leeroy Thornhill, dancer Sharky, and MC/vocalist Maxim. Pioneering the breakbeat-influenced genre ‘big beat’, the band’s music style stems from electronic punk to alternative dance.
The British collective emerged during the early '90s underground rave scene, achieving success with their UK Top 5 singles ‘Charly’ and ‘Everybody in the Place’. Following their debut album in 1992, ‘Experience’, The Prodigy steered towards the techno, breakbeat, and rock influences in their critically acclaimed ‘Music for the Jilted Generation’. Their third album ‘The Fat of The Land’ dominated at number one in 16 countries, including the UK and US charts. The record also spawned the UK number one hits ‘Firestarter’ and ‘Breathe’.
With an impressive 25 million records sold worldwide, The Prodigy is one of the most successful electronic groups ever. They have seven consecutive UK number-one albums, and AllMusic described them as the “Godfathers of Rave”.
