The Moody Blues

About The Moody Blues

Birmingham-formed band The Moody Blues broke into the British beat and R&B scene of the early 1960s, succeeding with their UK number one and US Top 10 single ‘Go Now’ in 1965. The collective went on to embrace the psychedelic rock movement, releasing their 1967 classical-infused concept album ‘Days of Future Passed’. The concept album established the band as a pioneer in art rock and progressive rock.

The Moody Blues released six more albums and toured globally until a brief hiatus in 1974. The records produced chart-topping FM Radio hits such as ‘Nights in White Satin’ (1967), ‘Tuesday Afternoon’ (1968), ‘Question’ (1970), ‘The Story in Your Eyes’ (1971), ‘Isn’t Life Strange’ (1972), and ‘I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)’ (1973).

The collective returned in 1977 with a more synth-pop sound, as evident in ‘Gemini Dream’ (1981), ‘The Voice’ (1981), and ‘I Know You’re Out There Somewhere’ (1988). Their 1986 single ‘Your Wildest Dreams’ made The Moody Blues the first act to earn three Top 10 singles in the US across three decades. Following ‘December’, the group ceased recording new material but continued to tour throughout the 2000s, reunited periodically for events, one-off concerts, and short tours until retiring in 2018.

The Moody Blues have sold over 70 million records worldwide, including 18x platinum and 18x gold-certified albums. They were inducted into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame in 2018.
