Duran Duran
About Duran Duran
Duran Duran have a track record of creating artistic, aesthetic and emotionally packed hits such as ‘Hungry Like the Wolf’. Formed in Birmingham, England, in 1978, the pop rock collective emerged in the New Romantic scene, innovating music video direction and a lead band in the MTV-driven ‘Second British Invasion’ of the US movement in the 1980s.
Duran Duran scored their first breakthrough single with ‘Girls on Film’ from their self-titled debut album (1981), followed by their second world-leading album ‘Rio’ (1982). The featured songs ‘Hungry Like the Wolf’ and ‘Rio’ spawned cinematic music videos directed by Australian filmmaker Russell Mulcahy and were two of their biggest tracks. Their third album ‘Seven and the Ragged Tiger’ marked their first UK number-one album and featured the US and UK number-one smash single ‘The Reflex’.
In 1985, Duran Duran took their US takeover to a new level with ‘A View to a Kill’ from the soundtrack of the James Bond film of the same name. Before the group released their fourth album ‘Notorious’, Roger and Andy departed the band in 1986 and Warren Cuccurullo replaced Andy as guitarist.
Following a few more line-up changes, another two top-ten worldwide hits ‘Ordinary World’ and ‘Come Undone’ and a series of low-key albums, Duran Duran returned with the original members to release their 2004 album ‘Astronaut’ alongside five additional albums such as ‘Danse Macabre’ (2023). The band have sold over 100 million records throughout their career, achieved 30 Top 40 singles on the UK Singles Charts and 21 Top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. The collective was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
