Arrow, born Alphonsus Cassell in 1954 in Montserrat, was a Caribbean soca musician celebrated for bringing the genre to international audiences.
Known as the “King of Soca,” Arrow began his career performing calypso before transitioning into soca, a more upbeat and dance-driven style. His global breakthrough came in 1982 with the release of Hot Hot Hot, a track that became one of the most recognisable Caribbean party anthems worldwide. The song’s infectious rhythm and celebratory spirit helped establish soca beyond the Caribbean, influencing carnival celebrations and dance floors across the globe.
Over his career, Arrow released more than 20 albums, becoming one of the most successful artists to emerge from the Eastern Caribbean.
Despite his passing in 2010, his legacy lives on as a pioneer who brought soca music to the mainstream while proudly representing Montserrat’s cultural heritage.
