About Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel emerged as the original lead vocalist for the progressive rock band Genesis. Following his group departure in 1975, he debuted his solo single ‘Solsbury Hill’ in 1977, followed by ‘Games without Frontiers’ which cracked the Top 5 on the Official Singles Charts. His fifth studio album ‘So’ (1986) became a best-seller, receiving triple platinum in the UK and five times platinum in the US. The album’s most successful single, ‘Sledgehammer,’ won a record nine MTV Awards in 1987 and was crowned the most-played music video of all time.

The British singer-songwriter has mastered world music throughout his career, co-founding the WOMAD festival in 1982, launching his state-of-the-art Real World Records label, and co-founding one of the first online music download services, OD2. He has also been involved in several humanitarian efforts, including Amnesty International Human Rights Now! Tour in 1988, established the Witness human rights organisation in 1992, and developed The Elders with Richard Branson, launched by Nelson Mandela in 2007.

Cited as one of the “100 most influential people in the world” by Time magazine, Gabriel was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2014.
