About Frank Sinatra

Frank Sinatra is nothing short of a legend, flying to fame in the mid-20th-century swing era. Nicknamed the ‘Chairman of the Board’, ‘The Voice’, and ‘Ol’ Blue Eyes’, the American vocalist is among the world’s best-selling artists, with an estimated 150 million sales globally.

Heavily influenced by the easy-listening vocals of Bing Crosby, Sinatra found success as a solo artist after signing with Columbia Records in 1943. In 1946, he emerged with his debut album ‘The Voice of Frank Sinatra’. He then signed with Capitol Records and produced several more captivating albums, including ‘In the Wee Small Hours’ (1955) and ‘Songs for Swingin’ Lovers!’ (1956).

In 1960, the singer left Capitol to launch his record label, Reprise Records, releasing a string of successful albums, including the retrospective ‘September of My Years’. Sinatra retired in 1971 after creating the powerful crooner ‘My Way’ but returned two years later for the upbeat ‘New York New York’ - two of his best-known singles.

Sinatra also featured on the silver screen, crafting a successful career as a film actor. After winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for From Here to Eternity (1953), he starred in over 60 films, such as The Man with the Golden Arm, The Manchurian Candidate, On The Town, Guys and Dolls, High Society, and Pal Joey, winning him a Golden Globe Award. On the B side, The Frank Sinatra Show began on CBS in 1950, and he made several appearances on television throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

Throughout his career, Sinatra received 11 Grammy Awards including the Grammy Trustees Award, Grammy Legend Award, and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He also achieved four UK number one albums and three UK number one singles, his first being ‘Three Coins in the Fountain’. Cited in Time magazine’s compilation of the 20th Century’s 100 Most Influential People, he continues to be regarded as one of the most iconic names in music.
