Brought to life in Wilmette, Illinois, in 2001, Fall Out Boy emerged from Chicago’s hardcore punk scene and was initially formed as a pop-punk side project. The American collective’s 2003 debut album ‘Take This to Your Grave’ became an underground success, helping them capture a dedicated fanbase – the album is now considered influential in 2000s pop-punk music.
Their 2005 major-label breakthrough ‘From Under the Cork Tree’ spawned two smash-hits - ‘Sugar, We’re Goin Down’ and ‘Dance Dance’, earning 2 million downloads each. The album went double platinum, launching the group from local heroes to international superstars, reflected in their Best New Artist nomination at the 2006 Grammy Awards. ‘Infinity on High’ (2007) shot to number one on the Billboard 200, with 260,000 sales in the first week. The record produced two more hit singles worldwide ‘This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race’ and ‘Thnks fr th Mmrs’.
Following the release of their fourth album ‘Folie à Deux’ and ‘Believers Never Die – Greatest Hits’, then a four-year hiatus, the band returned with ‘Save Rock and Roll’ in 2013, their second number-one album. It included the Top 20 single ‘My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)’. Their number-one success continued into ‘American Beauty/American Psycho’ (2015), and ‘Make America Psycho Again’ featured various remixed tracks with artists such as Migos and Wiz Khalifa.
Fall Out Boy's seventh studio album ‘Mania’ became their fourth number-one and sixth consecutive Top 10 album, followed by the Mania tour (featuring their first stadium show at Wrigley Field). In 2018, the group received their second Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album, and their 2023 release ‘So Much (for) Stardust’ followed suit.

How did Fall Out Boy get their name?
In a Redbull feature, Patrick Stump reveals what inspired the band name: “It just kind of stuck. The band had yet to decide on a moniker when they played their first show (we were basically booked as ‘Pete’s new band’), but “Fall Out Boy” - named after Radioactive Man’s sidekick in The Simpsons - eventually won out.”
Why did Fall Out Boy briefly split in 2009?
Folie à Deux (2008) did not achieve the same commercial success as its predecessors, and following the release of Believers Never Die – Greatest Hits, the band went on hiatus to work on separate side projects. They reunited in 2013.
