Bombay Bicycle Club
About Bombay Bicycle Club
Bombay Bicycle Club emerged in the noughties indie-rock scene after scoring the opening slot at V Festival in 2009. Formed by Jack Steadman, Jamie MacColl, Suren de Saram, and Ed Nash, their music style stems from folk and electronica to world music and indie rock.
The London-based band released their first single ‘Evening/Morning’ in 2009, followed by several creative albums including ‘Flaws’ and ‘A Different Kind of Fix’ to ‘So Long, See You Tomorrow’ (which reached number one on the UK Album Charts). Bombay Bicycle Club’s commercial success led them to tour worldwide as a headlining act, playing in North America, Australia, Europe, Asia, and the UK.
Following a three-year hiatus, the collective reunited to perform live and record new material, releasing the UK number four album ‘Everything Else Has Gone Wrong’ (featuring the 70 million streamed single ‘Eat, Sleep, Wake’).
Over their career, Bombay have won awards such as ‘Best New Band’ at the NME Awards in 2010, ‘Best Album' at the Ivor Novello Awards in 2015, and 'Best New Festival Act' at the UK Festival Awards. The collective’s star-studded 2023 album ‘My Big Day’ (featuring Chaka Khan, Damon Albarn, Holly Humberstone, and more) reached number three on the UK Albums Chart, while their 2024 EP ‘Fantasies’ boosted their critical success.
What are the four tracks on the 'Fantasies' EP?
Released in March 2024, the EP ‘Fantasies’ features: ‘Fantasneeze’ (feat. Matilda Mann), ‘Blindfold’ (feat. Liz Lawrence), ‘Willow’ (feat. Lucy Rose), and ‘Better Now’ (feat. Rae Morris).
Where did Bombay Bicycle Club get their name?
Their name was influenced by a chain of Indian restaurants in the UK called "Bombay Bicycle Club".
Why did Bombay Bicycle Club separate?
The four members went on a hiatus in January 2016 to pursue solo projects and explore “new sounds”. Nash recorded music under the name ‘Toothless’ and Steadman under the alias ‘Mr Jukes’. Both released successful albums in 2017.
What are Bombay Bicycle Club’s biggest hits?
The upbeat single ‘Always Like This’ has over 150 million streams on Spotify alone, while ‘Luna’ found commercial success at number 67 in the UK Singles Chart with 64 million streams.
