About Scorpions
Scorpions formed in Hanover, Germany, in 1965, led by guitarist Rudolf Schenker. The band’s core members Klaus Meine (vocals), Matthias Jabs (lead guitar), Francis Buchholz (bass), and Herman Rarebell (drums) joined during the 1970s after Michael Schenker, Rudolf’s brother, left the group in 1973.
Scorpions officially debuted in 1972 with their album ‘Lonesome Crow’, which had a more psychedelic sound. Over the years, their style evolved into a blend of hard rock, melodic heavy metal, and power ballads, as seen in albums like ‘Lovedrive’ (1979).
In the 1980s, Scorpions achieved peak commercial and critical success with albums such as ‘Animal Magnetism’ (1980), ‘Blackout’ (1982), ‘Love at First Sting’ (1984), and the live album ‘World Wide Live’ (1985). This success continued into the late 1980s and early 1990s with ‘Savage Amusement’ (1988) and ‘Crazy World’ (1990), the latter featuring their massive hit ‘Wind of Change’. Several of these albums went platinum in the US, solidifying the band’s global success.
In Germany, Scorpions have released thirteen consecutive studio albums that reached the Top 10 charts, while in the US, three of their albums - ‘Blackout’, ‘Love at First Sting’, and ‘Savage Amusement’ - hit the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Over the years, the band's lineup has changed frequently, with Rudolf Schenker being the only continuous member.
Scorpions have sold over 75 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling hard rock and heavy metal bands in history.
