The symphony has since become one of the most famous works in classical music, filled with hope and happiness as well as uplifting instrumentals that makes it a pleasure to listen to come rain or shine.

Born in Nelahozeves in 1841, Antonin Dvořák was a Czech composer who often used the rhythms and melodies of Moravian and native Bohemian folk music, following the Romantic era nationalist example of his predecessor Bedrich Smetana. He soon became one of the leading figures of the Czech National Revival.  

Dvořák discovered his musical talent from an early age, being an apt violin student from the age of six, and later made his first public performance of Piano Quintet in A major in Prague when he was 30 years old.  

In 1893, Dvorak took the position as director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York City, where he found creative inspiration in the surrounding Native American and African American communities. It was here the composer wrote two of his most successful orchestral works: Symphony from the New World which he premiered at Carnegie Hall on 16 December 1893, and Cello Concerto which became famous for its rich, lyrical melodies and virtuosic cello passages.
